LIVIA TANG

For season V, Livia Tang looks into the oriental mythology, strange tales from folklore books including a story about a goddess and rabbits residing on the moon. Stories that are an inspiration behind the collection’s identity revolves around the relationships between human and animal spirits that turn into human forms, although they are spiritual stories they have a touch of darkness that can be seen in tuned down tones and deep colours in the season V collection.  Black and white ink drawing print of the velvet soft tailored jacket and the velvet printed knit, as well as the embroidery on the silver lace collar are a direct representation of the story combining soft fabrics and almost ghost-like appearing graphics.

Cicely Barker illustration of flower fairies, hardback embossed book covers of folklore tales, the work of Tim Walker translates through the collection in the use of colour and print with rich deep green velvet and dark grey velvet as well as the use of sanded black and woolly red. Luscious Black and powder blue duchess satin are made into separates such as cropped top, long sleeves top, skirts, trousers and coat for versatile styling.

Knitwear made from wool mixed with several shades of pinks and lilacs alongside the powdery colour palette sits as neutral garments within the collection. Green velvet shirt with matching green mother of pearl buttons, pink wool knit top with matching rose quartz buttons, green velvet skirt with black jade buttons, mother of pearl buttons and flower embroidered buttons are seen throughout the collection on matching colour pieces.

Season V collection’s statement garments are tailored pieces such as long tailored coats, skirts, and tailored trousers, with fluid pieces such as a sanded black Cupro dress, green velvet dress.

The collection is for a modern heroine who is bravely mixing cropped satin top with the ivory wool jacquard knitted dresses; and going to work in a matching velvet suit or Woollen ensemble. Comfort and uniqueness intertwined, she is not afraid to be noticed meanwhile not feeling constrained by clothes.
