CATHERINE DENNISS

Catherine grew up in Great Yarmouth and went to study at Birmingham City University. Her designs are influenced by real people’s stories and working class men, these inspirations are incorporated into her garments with unique fabrics and durable details creating bold masculine form.

Her graduate collection is influenced by a Man’s biography. His life begins in World War II and then he escapes to the circus to become an animal trainer. Strongly inspired by the travelling tent circuses, with all the details such as ropes, durable top stitching and classic circus stripes, Catherine puts her own twist onto those elements.

She is using open screen printing with procion dye to achieve signature fabric effect. The stripes were printed on the fabric when folded, this can be seen on garments where the folds are being held by reflective tape and then unfolding to show the unprinted fabric. A/W18 collection has a very raw and natural feel with the colours and the textures used, some of the garments have waxed finish which creates an interesting texture when creased.

Catherine has interned at Wan Hung and Craig Green where she found her desire for menswear.
